Mania Newbie 2020
Hiyas fellow crafters
It is my hope that you are well, practicing social distance as much as possible, and are finding moments to work on your crafts to stay sane.
This is my first time participating in Mania and will do a combination of three SALs and five to ten new starts.
Finishes (but not framed yet)
1. country cottage needleworker - Home of a needleworker with the called for thread.
2. be well and keep stitching & Stitch covid -19 freebies for #bewellandstitch

SALs

1.Snow Village from Country Cottage Needle Works (SAL along with Fat Quarter Shop). this is my first project that is so large in a long time. I am a few months behind but am encouraged that others who are following along with FQS's #SnowVillagefqs monthly project are also at the same or similar place at the moment. i have completed two months since my last post however i am still three months behind...

2. bloomtopia (#FQS)
this is the first project I have tried to stitch in hand and it might be a challenge since it is on 20 count aida. I am enjoying working on this project and have found a lighted magnifying glass that sits on my side table to help me see the smaller stitches. I have been working with a 24 size tulip needle and will continue with this since it what i had on hand. However I have discovered using bohins #28 works better so my other projects have been using it if the cloth stitch count is larger (smaller thread)
3. Feels Like Home (#FQS)
This is a one month release SAL by Fat Quarter Shop (FPS) that is made up of five portions that will be released each Friday in May. I am stitching it on 28 antique white 28 count lugana and the recommended threads of classic color works (all purchased from FQS). I have not decided yet but am thinking of adding some back stitch to help the bird's various colors to pop (thinking to use the same grey that was used for the branch if i have any left over at the end of the SAL. I am using the #28 bohin needles.
new starts
Little Dove's Year by Little Dove's Designs
I decided to start this collection of calendar squares with the May block with the intention to finish during May and hoping to start up on the next month. My plan is to stitch all the months separately so I can apply the magnet and washers that Priscilla and Chelsee's (Real House wives of Cross Stitch) use to rotate finishes for the same frame. Each month will have the same two tone blue border and is stitched on 16 count aida obtained from two cloths purchased from FQS's monthly cloth. this was my first time using a calculator app to determine how much cloth is needed for each separate month and I am happy to see that I was able to get all 12 squares with enough space around each to use when finishing. I origianlly had planned to do it on a blue-grey cloth and I did not know how to buy enough cloth to cover 12 different portions (but hey I have a scrap for something else).
Mania plans
Not sure which one will be started on which day but here is my list
1. country cottage needleworker - Silent night - using the called for thread and cloth
2. heart string samplery - for spacious skys on 40 count examplar with the called for threads (first time working with 40 count and so will be taking my time.
3. the scarlott house - 1871 schoolshouse sampler is also on 40 count examplar and will be working with the called for threads
4. Tiny modernist - Sewing room motifs
5. Country cottage needle worker Here kitty kitty (started and had to frog the start as the thread die lots are more peachy than pumkiny and the gold/brown color was more yellow orange. so ordering different thread).
6. county cottage needleworker - Bless this house (started and had to frog as I did not like the thread colors on the cloth selected. will start again at some time)
7. Stitching Bling designs - my stitching room (have not kitted yet)
8. Heart in Hand - quilting bird (not kitted yet)
9. Heart in Hand - Stitching bird (not kitted yet)
10 Designing my first design - with a chemistry teacher focus....so will be stitching the model piece for attempting to release my first pattern.
In the quilting zone
I have only been working on the bloomtopia quilt kit since I was busy making masks for a local children's only hospital for the visiting family.
In the yarn corner
have not even picked up any knitting needles, crochet hooks, or shuttles due to increased focus on cross stitch and the demands of teaching online multiple subjects/multiple levels.
It is my hope that you are well, practicing social distance as much as possible, and are finding moments to work on your crafts to stay sane.
